Mindful Introduction to Culture and Tradition
At Wat Than in Phnom Penh, Cambodia
We are proud of Cambodian culture and traditions, and we value the opportunity to share them with friends from around the world. While sharing culture is important, how we share it matters even more. Cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and personal perspectives differ, and these differences deserve awareness and respect.
When introducing guests to Cambodian culture, especially traditions connected to religion, we encourage a mindful and respectful approach. Guests are invited to observe or participate at their own comfort level, with the understanding that all activities are optional. The purpose is to create cultural understanding, not to ask anyone to practice a religion.
In this experience, a monk joined us to share insights into Buddhist philosophy and aspects of Khmer culture. Through conversation and explanation, guests were able to learn and reflect in a respectful setting. It became a meaningful moment of cultural exchange for everyone involved.
